Air or Pro — which should I buy?
Air for everyday work, study, browsing, document editing, and even light photo and video work. Pro if you need sustained performance for long video renders, 3D work, large datasets, or want the brighter ProMotion XDR display. The M5 Air is faster than most people will ever need.
How much memory should I get?
16 GB is fine for everyday work and even moderate Lightroom or Final Cut. Get 24 GB if you keep dozens of browser tabs and apps open simultaneously, or if you do regular video editing. 32 GB is for heavy professional workflows.
What's the difference between M4 and M5?
M5 introduces Neural Accelerators in every GPU core — that's a major leap for AI performance (around 3.5× faster than M4 on AI workloads). CPU and GPU performance also step up by roughly 15-20%. Battery life is the same.
Will it run Windows apps?
Yes, via virtualisation tools like Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion. Performance for most office and productivity software is excellent. Native Mac apps will always run smoother — most major software (Microsoft 365, Adobe, etc.) has Apple silicon-native versions now.
Can I upgrade memory or storage later?
No. Both are soldered to the logic board on Apple silicon Macs. Buy the configuration you'll want for the next 4-5 years — that's why the memory question above matters.
